Inside, there isn’t much separating the retractable fastback and softtop Miata convertible. They’ve got the same 2.0-liter four-cylinder engines, the same interior, and the same 4.6 cu.ft. of trunk space (which is pretty impressive when a hardtop is incorporated).

Where do the Mazda MX-5 Miata and Mazda MX-5 Miata RF differ? If you decide you feel more comfortable with the hardtop convertible, great! The starting MSRP of the 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF is higher than the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata.

Mazda designed the all-new Mazda MX-5 Miata RF to open up a larger audience to open-air driving. The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF sports a retractable hardtop convertible while the 2016 Mazda MX-5 Miata features a more traditional softtop convertible design. While no one would deny the enjoyment that comes with driving a convertible, most car owners value the security of a traditional hardtop roof; that’s where the Mazda MX-5 Miata RF comes in.
