Four Tree Island

It’s been known by many names, but one thing is for sure about Four Tree Island – you’re going to enjoy your time there. It might be known more as a summer hotspot – and it’s a great place for a summer cookout – but there’s no denying that when fall hits and the colors begin to change, the island that’s not really an island anymore is a thing of absolute beauty. Four Tree Island is open from dawn until dusk and features multiple barbeque pits, picnic tables, a large play area and striking views of Memorial Bridge, the Piscataqua River, the Portsmouth Fish Pier and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

Peirce Island

If you’re stopping at Four Tree Island, you might as well head on over the pedestrian causeway to Peirce Island. Bigger than Four Tree Island, Peirce Island has everything you need for a fall adventure, including walking paths, playgrounds, boat launches and an outdoor pool. Though you may want to hold off until next summer for that last one, depending on the weather. Peirce Island also offers a number of impeccable views of things like salt marshes, tidal pools, cliffs and meadows.
