2019 Mazda 3

2019 Mazda 3

Mazda has become a household name thanks to its long history of producing high-quality and stylish yet affordable vehicles. Mazda doesn’t create just flashy eye candy that satisfies in the moment – it creates reliable and long-lasting vehicles that continue to delight year after year.

The Mazda 3 has played a big role in the creation of that reputation. It’s a gorgeous sedan that straddles the line between a sophisticated, luxury model and a budget, family car. It has a more elegant profile than most sedans in its class, yet it doesn’t cost anywhere near what a comparable luxury vehicle would cost.

With the 2019 model year, the Mazda 3 is back and better than ever. The Mazda 3 is more attractive, has sportier performance, and is loaded with more features. And you get it all for the same great prices that you have come to expect from the Mazda 3. Here’s a closer look at what’s new in the popular sedan:

2019 Mazda 3Exterior Styling

The Mazda 3 has a sporty stance that makes it look like it’s ready to leap into action. The front end bends down slightly, like an athlete putting one step forward to start. The grooves along the sides look like the definition of toned muscles. The car swoops toward the front, where it has a snub-nosed fascia with a geometric, mesh grille subtly lined in chrome. The slanting headlights sweep back toward the wheels, but not exaggeratedly so.

The Mazda 3 has just enough details to make it appealing, but not so many that it takes on a strong look that would turn some buyers away. The car is elegant enough to be noticed, but not so flashy that it’s obnoxious.

2019 Mazda 3 InteriorInterior Styling and Details

Mazda gave the same attention to detail on the interior of the 2019 Mazda 3 as it did on the exterior. The interior will make you think you’re stepping inside a luxury vehicle, but you’ll be reminded of how attainable the car is when you look at the price tag.

The seating on the new Mazda 3 has been designed for maximum comfort, whether you’re driving to work or taking a long road trip. The cabin is built with sturdy steel and sound-insulating materials, so you will also enjoy a quiet and calming ride. Even bumps in the road will be easily absorbed so that you enjoy a smooth and comfortable ride.

The console is designed so that all the controls are easily accessible, and even the speakers are positioned toward the driver for maximum enjoyment. The display screen is easy to see and to reach, and attention has been given to the easy operation of all the controls.

Performance

You aren’t buying a sedan because you want to push it to the limits, but you do want to know that driving won’t be dull. The 2019 Mazda 3 delivers with sporty performance and great handling. All models of the Mazda 3 come standard with a 2.5-liter Inline4 engine that puts out 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. You have the choice to get either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic.

Eventually, Mazda says it plans to introduce another engine option, which will be all new for the company. It will unveil a Skyactiv X four-cylinder engine that uses compression-ignition technology for greater fuel economy. There’s no word on when this engine will be introduced, so we don’t know if it will be ready for the 2020 model or not.

The 2019 Mazda 3 comes standard with front-wheel drive, but buyers have the option to upgrade to all-wheel drive if they need it. You aren’t likely to go off-roading in your elegant sedan, but you may want that extra control for icy or rainy conditions.

You get a smooth ride with the 16-inch wheels and fine-tuned suspension, and you enjoy great gas mileage – estimated at 27 mpg in the city and 36 mpg on the highway. You can upgrade to 18-inch wheels if you want to enhance your experience.

2019 Mazda 3 TechnologyTech and Convenience Features

Many buyers looking at sedans are more interested in the bells and whistles inside instead of what’s under the hood. They know they aren’t going to get a muscle engine, and they’re more interested in getting good gas mileage and enjoying a nice ride.

The all-new Mazda 3 is loaded with fun features that enhance the driving experience. The base model comes with a large, 7-inch display screen for the infotainment system. The screen sits prominently on the dash, providing easy line of sight, and it is controlled by a rotary knob positioned seamlessly on the center console. Mazda engineers took their time designing the controls, which have a similar design and functionality throughout the cabin. It’s a subtle feature that you will come to appreciate when you experience consistency is reactivity. You can even set your favorites for your audio settings, including station and volume.

The infotainment system is connected to a high-quality sound system, and it gives you the option to streak your smart phone through Bluetooth or wired connections. If you want Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, you’ll need to upgrade. Other optional upgrades include a 12-speaker sound system from Bose, in-system navigation, and several safety features.

You get cloth seating with the base model, but you’re able to upgrade to leather upholstery, as well as a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. All the materials are soft to the touch and look to be of high quality.

Safety Features

Mazda is known for its great suite of safety features, and you get many of them on the 2019 Mazda 3. Standard features include a rearview camera, traction and stability control, anti-lock brakes, and a suite of airbags. Optional features include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and lane keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, blind spot monitoring, forward collision warning, driver monitoring, automatic emergency braking, and automatic high beams. All of these features are standard on the hatchback model, and some are included when you move up the trim levels.

Mazda 3 Options

Often, people think of the Mazda 3 as a sedan, but the 2019 model is also available as a hatchback (as are many of the previous models). The hatchback is similar in feel to the sedan, but rather than a closed trunk at the rear, it has an open space. The rear window slants down to the rear fascia, and it creates a rear liftgate. Raise that liftgate, and you’ll see the back of the rear seat and an open space for cargo.

For the sedan or the hatchback style, you can also choose from four trim levels: The base model, Select trim, Preferred trim, and Premium trim. With each trim level, you get additional features that you would have had to add through an options package otherwise, and you get nicer interior materials.

All the trim levels come with the same engine option. If you want to get the six-speed manual transmission, you’ll have to upgrade to the Premium trim level on the hatchback body style.

Features you’ll get on the upper trim levels include an 8.8-inch display screen, synthetic leather or leather upholstery, a larger sound system, extra USB ports, HD radio, dual-zone automatic climate control, and more. You even get the option for different exterior colors with the other trim levels.
