2022 Mazda CX-5

2022 Mazda CX-5

Few car manufacturers consistently deliver the high-quality results that you can expect from Mazda. And with the 2022 Mazda CX-5, it's another home run shot.

Not only did they overhaul tons of features to give you the best possible experience, but they brought back everything that worked from the 2021 Mazda CX-5. It's a winning combination that has made Mazda one of the most popular car manufacturers year after year.

So, what can you expect if you come to check out the new 2022 model? We'll break it all down for you here.

New Features

Just because you've seen the 2021 Mazda CX-5 doesn't mean that their 2022 model isn't worth checking out. Because unlike some car manufacturers, Mazda did more than simply kick out last year's model with a new label on it for the 2022 Mazda CX-5.

We broke down some of the most noticeable changes between the two model years for you here so you know exactly what to look for when you get to the dealership.

Exterior Changes

2022 Mazda CX-5 BackMazda didn't completely overall the exterior look of the CX-5, but they did make some tweaks to smooth some things out. For starters, they actually smoothed out some of the surfaces on the front and rear of the vehicle. It's not a huge difference, but it does give the vehicle a sportier appearance.

The more notable differences come on the front end of the vehicle though. Mazda added a mesh texture to the front grill to create a three-dimensional appearance and gave it wings that extend toward the newly reshaped LED headlights.

These aren't complete design overhauls or anything close, but they do give the Mazda CX-5 a refreshed appearance that keeps with the times.

Interior Changes

Not only can you notice a difference in the 2022 Mazda CX-5 when you're outside the vehicle, but when you sit down inside you can feel the difference. That's because Mazda added more support to all the seats, which gives you a more comfortable experience every time you get behind the wheel.

While that's it for interior changes, considering Mazda just put the interior through a refresh in 2021, you're still getting a top-of-the-line interior.

Powertrain/Mechanical Changes

Once again, it's not much more than tweaks here. Mazda returned the transmission to give you a smoother and more responsive ride, and they beefed up the suspension a bit too.

This gives you a smoother ride while you're traveling down the road and gives you a better steering response than ever. They're not huge changes but considering how smooth the 2021 Mazda CX-5 drove, anything more is impressive in its own right.

Reliable Returns

When you're already working with a great model there's no reason to change everything that comes through the door. And that's why Mazda stuck with some of their best features with the 2022 Mazda CX-5. Because you don't replace what works.

Safety is Standard

What really sets Mazda apart from the competition is all the features that come standard with their base models. Every Mazda CX-5 has a lane-departure warning system, forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, and a rear-view camera.

Not only does Mazda offer all these additional safety features in their CX-5, but they also have a five-star safety rating from the NHTSA. They got five-star ratings in every front and side collision category, keeping you and your family safer than ever in an accident.

Mazda believes safety shouldn't be an optional add-on, and when you look at all the features they include standard it's not hard to see the difference that mindset makes.

Large Infotainment Display

While touchscreen infotainment displays are the new norm in modern vehicles, few car companies include a 10.25" display in their vehicles. And when you look at everything crammed into these systems it only becomes even more impressive.

There's the standard Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, but it also comes with the capabilities to handle both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Paired with Mazda Connected Services and the options for satellite radio, a navigation system, and a 10-speaker premium audio system, it's hard to beat what Mazda offers.

Performance Specs

2022 Mazda CX-5 InteriorWhere would a car review be without mentioning the performance specifications? The 2022 Mazda CX-5 comes with a 2.5L inline-four cylinder that puts out 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque.

But if you need a little more oomph, then their turbocharged engine has you covered there too. It puts out an impressive 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. It's more than enough from a five-seater SUV.

And while the turbo option certainly impacts the fuel efficiency some, both models still do extremely well and will have you making fewer trips than ever to fill up. That means you won't just save money when you're purchasing this vehicle, but you'll save money at the pump too.

Trim Levels

Mazda decided to mix up their trim levels a little with their 2022 CX-5, but when you dive into them, they're not all that different from older model years. There are five trim packages to choose from, and we broke each one of them down for you here.

Sport

Mazda's Sport trim package is their equivalent of a base package. It’s the most affordable option for the CX-5, and it comes with their base in-line four engine.

And while it doesn't come with all their premium features, it still includes all the standard safety features like lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, a 10.25" infotainment screen, and forward collision mitigation.

So while it might be a base model, it offers far more than what you get in most base model vehicles.

Touring

Expect the touring Mazda CX-5 to cost a little more than the Sport model, but it’s still a great deal for what you're getting. The extra features included in their Touring model includes a power driver's seat, heated front seats, and a dual-zone climate control system.

They're comfort features through and through, but they certainly help take your Mazda CX-5 to the next level, and it doesn't cost that much to upgrade!

Grand Touring

One step up from the touring CX-5 is their Grand Touring model. The Grand Touring is going to cost a little more than the Sport package, but  it gives you even more luxury features to help set your SUV apart. The standard four-speaker audio system turns into a 10-speaker Bose audio system, and you get a power sliding moonroof.

You also get a rear power liftgate, and that liftgate comes with a programmable height adjustment. It's more luxurious, and it's still available at a great price.

Turbo

The Turbo trim package is the first 2022 CX-5 package to come with their turbo engine. The price certainly has a decent jump to accommodate all the mechanical changes, but it upgrades everything from the engine to to the suspension.

The turbo trim package jumps the overall horsepower and torque significantly, and it comes with trim specific accents and stitching. The CX-5 Turbo might cost a little more, but it stands out from the pack, and it gives you phenomenal performance specs.

Turbo Signature

The Turbo Signature is the Mazda's top trim package for the 2022 CX-5, and it doesn't disappoint. Sure it's the most expensive CX-5, but it's still extremely affordable for a fully loaded SUV option.

Not only does it come with everything in the Turbo trim package, but it also has a 360-degree camera, Smart City Brake Support-Reverse, premium leather seats, and parking sensors. It's the best of the best, and if you're interested in a CX-5 you're not going to find a better option.

And if you're already sold on the turbo engine, it's not that much more expensive to get the Turbo Signature and get everything Mazda has to offer.

The Warranty

We couldn't wrap up our review of the all-new 2022 Mazda CX-5 without mentioning the awesome warranty that comes with a new Mazda.

With every new Mazda CX-5 you get a 3-year 36,000-mile comprehensive warranty and a 5-year 60,000-mile powertrain warranty straight from Mazda. It's an outstanding protection plan that gives you peace of mind every time you get behind the wheel.

But considering how reliable these vehicles are, we're confident that you won't need it. Of course there are tons of extended warranty options you can purchase from the dealership if you need a little extra protection.

Final Thoughts

If you're looking for an outstanding five-seat SUV crossover, then the new 2022 Mazda CX-5 is exactly what you've been looking for. Their sport-level option is available for a great price, and you still get tons of standard features.

And if you're looking for a truly premium option then their Turbo Signature stands apart from the rest. It has tons of premium features, outstanding performance specs, and just about everything else you could want out of a Mazda vehicle.

So, what are you waiting for? Come check out what's new in the 2022 Mazda CX-5 for yourself. You might find that it's exactly what you need.
