EXTERIOR STYLING

At first glance, you might think that the Mazda 3 and the Mazda 6 are the same sedan, but there are subtle differences between them. For some, these differences won’t add up to much, but for others, they can create a unique dynamic that makes one sedan preferable to the other.

Both have the same basic profile, but the Mazda 3 has a meatier grille that is thicker than the one on the Mazda 6. Both grilles are underscored by chrome trim, and both are flanked by sweeping headlights. The lights on the Mazda 3 are a bit shorter and slimmer, while those on the Mazda 6 feature swooping lines that create a distinctive shape.

The details on the Mazda 6 are just a little bit extra all around. There is a more pronounced slope leading up from the front end, a more pronounced groove sweeping over the front end, and more chrome accents and detailing.

INTERIOR STYLING AND FEATURES

Inside the 2019 Mazda 3 and 2019 Mazda 6, you’ll find comfortable seating for five and high-quality trims and materials. You’ll get a bit more passenger and cargo space in the Mazda 6, but you’ll have enough room to be comfortable in the Mazda 3, as well as enough cargo space for most loads you’d expect to carry in a sedan.

The 2019 Mazda 3 has convenience features like front and door rear pockets, keyless ignition, audio and cruise controls on the steering wheel, one-touch power windows in the front and back, keyless power door locks, an eight-speaker entertainment system, and heated mirrors. You get a lot of great convenience features in the 2019 Mazda 6 also, including a leather steering wheels, adaptive cruise control, mirrors with integrated turn signals, dual vanity mirrors, and climate control – plus all the features offered on the Mazda 3. The Mazda 6 has a six-speaker entertainment system, and it comes with USB connections for charging and streaming devices.

You’ll get a great ride with a lot of great features with either the Mazda 3 or the Mazda 6, but you may find that one sedan offers more of what you prefer.

UNDER THE HOOD

Both the 2019 Mazda 3 and the 2019 Mazda 6 offer peppy performance with good gas mileage.

The Mazda 3 comes standard with a 2.5-liter Inline 4 engine that puts out 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. It gets an estimated 26 mpg in the city and 35 mpg on the highway. The combined fuel economy is 30 mpg.

The Mazda 6 is almost the 3’s twin. It also has a 2.5-liter Inline 4 engine, but manages to squeeze out an extra horsepower. Torque is the same, as are the fuel economy numbers for the city and highway. However, the combined fuel economy estimate is a gallon lower.

You won’t find much difference in the way the Mazda 3 and the Mazda 6 drive, unless you get into some of the finer aspects of the mechanics – which you probably won’t be doing if you’re shopping for a basic sedan. You’re likely to find the real differences in the layout of the interior and the feel of the steering wheel, among other things.

SAFETY FEATURES

Mazda is known for making great vehicles that are also safe for the whole family, and the Mazda 3 and Mazda 6 are no exception to that reputation.

The 2019 Mazda 3 has a lot of great safety features, including four-wheel anti-lock brakes, daytime running lights, an engine immobilizer, a post-collision safety system, a three-point seatbelt for the rear center seat, stability and traction control, emergency braking assistance, tire pressure monitoring, and a backup camera.

Meanwhile, in addition to these safety features, the 2019 Mazda 6 also has safety features like turn signal mirrors, a pre-collision safety system, self-leveling headlights, dusk-sensing headlights, an LED headlamp, blind-spot monitoring, and lane departure warning.

Of course, both vehicles also have a full suite of airbags, child seat anchors, and child safety locks. You can feel confident driving in either vehicle with your family.
