You should receive communication from us as you near the end of your lease period so that you can safely return your vehicle and get your lease closed out. Our team at Seacoast Mazda will be happy to help you get your lease closed out. To get your lease closed out, please bring your vehicle, your keys, and any manuals or accessories that came with your vehicle. We will help you out with getting that lease closed and your vehicle turned in. There are also a few options for what you want to do after your lease is closed, check them out below.

What are my end of lease options?

There are a few options at the end of your lease for what to do next. Below are those options that we will explain more in detail below.

  • Lease or Purchase Another Vehicle – If your lease is up, you should decide whether you want to try to continue leasing vehicles or purchasing vehicles. Some people prefer leasing, but others lease a vehicle to build up their credit so that they can purchase a vehicle. Both are great options, you just have to decide which option is the best one for your life!
  • Purchase Your Leased Mazda – Did you end up falling in love with your Mazda vehicle that you leased? That’s awesome! In many cases, you can decide to purchase the vehicle you were just leasing. We can switch from a vehicle lease to a car loan and get you set up with a loan term that works for your life and your needs.
  • Return Your Vehicle – If you don’t want to lease or purchase a vehicle from us at Seacoast Mazda, you can simply return your leased vehicle and be on your way!   • What is a lease maturity date? You may hear the term “lease maturity date” and it is just a term for the date your lease agreement ends. That is the day you need to have returned your vehicle to us or made a plan to purchase the vehicle you are leasing.
  • Can I end my lease early? You can return your vehicle early and end the lease early. However, you may be required to pay some early termination fees. Check your lease document specifically to see if this applies to you.
  • Will I be contacted about the end of lease? You should be contacted multiple times leading up to the end of your lease to remind you that it is ending. You may receive emails or phone calls, or there may also be notices in your billing statements. This information will remind you about the lease end and to set up a lease return appointment.
  • Do I need to set up an appointment to return my leased vehicle? Yes, call us at Seacoast Mazda to set up an appointment to return your vehicle. This just ensures we are prepared for getting you closed out of your lease!
  • What should I bring to the end of lease appointment? There are a few things to bring to your appointment. The first is your vehicle! You also want to be sure to bring all sets of keys you have for the vehicle (if you don’t bring all keys, you may face charges). You also want to bring the owners manual if applicable, as well as any other equipment that can with your leased vehicle like cargo covers, headrests, etc. You also want an odometer disclosure statement so that we can check the miles you have used during your vehicle lease.
  • What can I be charged for at the end of a lease? Hopefully there will be no or minimum charges at the end of your lease, but there are a few things you can be charged for. The first is excess wear and use of the vehicle. The second is excess mileage. The other charges would be any past due or unpaid payments, late payment fees, taxes, etc. You can also be charged if your lease ends early.
  • Do I need to stop any automatic payments at the end of the lease? Yes, you do! If you have set up automatic payments every month for your lease, you will have to cancel those automatic payments otherwise they will continue.
  • Can I purchase the vehicle I am leasing? Yes, normally purchasing the vehicle you are leasing is not a problem. You will have to get a payoff quote to see what the vehicle is priced at, and if you need to get financing, our finance department can help you out!
  • What if I go over my mileage allowance for the lease? With any lease, there is a mileage allowance you have for your vehicle, if you go over that allowance, you will see some potential charges. If you have gone over your mileage, give us a call, and we can give you more information specific to your situation.
