2024 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Editions
After having been around for several years, Mazda CX-5 still remains a favorite amongst buyers of compact crossover SUV's. The Mazda CX-5 has been the brand's best-selling model globally every year since 2014.
The second generation Mazda CX-5 range continues as is, albeit with some add-ons to the range, including the Carbon Turbo trim package for 2024.

What's New
Just like what Mazda did for the CX-5's smaller sibling, the CX-30 crossover in the SUV lineup and the Mazda3 range, Mazda has added the Carbon Turbo trim level to the 2024 Mazda CX-5 range.
The 2024 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Edition has two trim levels: the 2.5 S Carbon Edition and the 2.5 Carbon Turbo.
Powertrain
Mazda's CX-5 Carbon Edition models for 2024 offer buyers two engine options. Starting with the 2.5 S Carbon Edition fitted with Mazda's SKYACTIV®-G 2.5, 16 valve, naturally aspirated inline four-cylinder gasoline engine that produces 187 horsepower @ 6,000 rpm and 185 pound-feet of torque @ 4,000 rpm.
The second more powerful engine option fitted in the Carbon Turbo trim is the SKYACTIV®-G 2.5 Dynamic Pressure Turbo DOHC, a 16-valve four-cylinder unit. This turbocharged engine makes 227 horsepower @ 5,000 rpm and 320 pound-feet of torque @ 2,500 rpm using 87 octane unleaded fuel, which is bumped up to 256 hp @ 5,000 rpm when the tank is filled with 93 octane premium unleaded fuel.
Both Carbon Edition trim levels are fitted with Mazda's SKYACTIV®-Drive 6-speed automatic transmission with manual shift and sport mode. The Carbon Turbo trim adds Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (MI drive) with sport and off-road modes.
Power is sent to all four corners in both of the Carbon Edition trims with Mazda's I-ACTIV AWD (all-wheel drive) drivetrain.
Exterior
The 2024 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Editions stand out from their stablemates in the CX-5 range with exclusive exterior colors and exterior trim finishes. A comprehensive list of specifications means that owners won't be left hankering for much more in the way of niceties.
Taking a look from the front end of the Carbon trim models, we see the fitment of modern LED headlights with auto-leveling and auto on/off high beam control. Daytime running lights (DRL) are standard on both models, with the Carbon Turbo trim getting an upgrade to LED versions of the DRLs along with an adaptive front lighting system.
Clearing the view out front is taken care of by automatic rain-sensing variable-intermittent windshield wipers, and at the rear, an intermittent rear wiper/washer does duty.
Aesthetic enhancements include black power side mirrors with LED turn signal indicators, which are heated on the Carbon Turbo model. The black accents are continued with the front grille finished in gloss black, a black signature wing and, on the Turbo version, exclusive gloss black lower bumper trim, side rocker molding and wheel arches.
Further exterior features standard on the Carbon Editions include a roof-mounted "shark fin" antenna, body-colored rear roof spoiler, bright finished dual exhaust outlets, rear privacy glass, rear power liftgate with programmable height adjustment and AWD badges. The Turbo Edition receives an additional Turbo badge.
Both Carbon Edition models ride on 19 x 7-inch alloy wheels in a black metallic finish wrapped in P 225/55 R19 all-season tires.
The 2024 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Editions sport a wheelbase of 106.2 inches, giving the compact crossover a roomy interior for up to five occupants. The CX-5 measures 180.1 inches in length and 65.6 inches in height. The width measures 83.3 inches with wing mirrors open. A handy standard, unladen ground clearance of 7.9 inches allows drivers of the CX-5 to venture onto off-road tracks without fear of damage to the underbelly of their vehicles.
The 2.5 S Carbon Edition is available in exclusive Polymetal Gray Metallic paint, and the Carbon Turbo Edition is available in two extra-cost color options, Rhodium White Metallic and Zircon Sand Metallic.
Both trims offer a maximum towing capacity of 2000 pounds, and fuel tanks can accommodate up to 15.3 gallons.
Interior
The upscale interior of the 2024 Mazda CX-5 Carbon Edition model features quality materials and a well-planned cabin layout. Nifty features that sometimes go unnoticed when car shopping, such as the floor-hinged accelerator pedal, normally the reserve of high-end sports cars, give a superior pedal feel.
The well-crafted leather-wrapped steering wheel with red stitching features a tilt & telescopic steering column. It sits directly in front of the driver, allowing a more natural seating position. The driver also enjoys a leather-wrapped gear selector with red stitching, which is also heated on the Turbo Carbon trim.
Driver convenience features abound from the moment the driver approaches the CX-5 with a standard Mazda's advanced keyless entry and start system, speed-sensitive power door locks with 2-stage unlocking and an auto-dimming rearview mirror complete with HomeLink.
An impressive list of standard interior features includes a dual-zone automatic climate control with pollen filter and rear air conditioning vents, power windows with a one-touch down/up feature, a power sliding-glass moonroof with a one-touch-open feature and an interior sunshade.
Other well-thought-out small details, such as front-seat armrests at the same height for optimal comfort, add up to an impressively comfortable environment for all occupants, with its aforementioned five-passenger seating capacity that CX-5 carries occupants in comfort with leather-trimmed seats, an eight way-power-adjustable driver's seat with power lumbar support and two-position memory, a six-way power-adjustable front passenger's seat and heated front seats with three-level adjustment.
Adjustable all-around headrests, black interior and door panel trims, plus carpet floor mats round off the finishes of the cabin. The Carbon Turbo receives an exclusive black cloth headliner finish.
Further creature comforts in the seemingly unending and comprehensive list are a rear window defogger with a timer, electronic parking brake, dual-covered illuminated visor vanity mirrors, 12-volt power outlets, map lights, a dome light, and remote fuel-door release.
Storage spaces and cargo carrying capability are well catered for with the likes of a standard glove compartment, overhead console with sunglasses holder, the center console armrest with tray and covered storage bin, driver's and front passenger's seat back pockets, front and rear door bottle holders/storage and at the rear, a seat center armrest with integrated cup holders.
Cargo loading is made easy with the 40/20/40 split one-touch fold-down and reclining rear seatback, which opens up to 58.1/ 59.3 cubic feet of EPA cargo volume with rear seatback down and floorboard up/down, respectively.
The 2.5 S Carbon Edition is available with two leather color options, red or black, and the Carbon Turbo is exclusively trimmed in brown terracotta leather upholstery with black suede accents and gunmetal trim accents.
Infotainment and Technology
Both Carbon trims feature a 10.25-inch full-color display Mazda Connect Infotainment system accessed via the center console-mounted rotary controller and volume knob. Connectivity is taken care of by Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio capability with steering-wheel-mounted audio, phone and cruise controls.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as a premium Bose 10-speaker surround sound system with Centerpoint and AudioPilot. Convenient dual front USB type C audio inputs and dual rear USB type A charging ports are fitted. The Turbo trim adds SiriusXM satellite radio with a 3-month no-charge trial subscription and a wireless phone charger.
2024 Carbon Edition trims feature instrumentation of a speedometer, tachometer and fuel gauge on a black background with white lettering and silver surrounds, an ambient temperature & clock display and a 4.6-inch multi-information display with a trip computer.
Safety And Driver Assistance
The CX-5 Carbon Edition models are comprehensively equipped when it comes to standard safety and driver-assistance technology.
Stand-out safety equipment fitted as standard includes dual front airbags with seat belt-use, passenger-weight sensors, front side-impact airbags, side-impact air curtains with rollover protection, 3-point seat belts all around and front seatbelt pre-tensioners with force limiters.
