Independent Vs Certified Service
INDEPENDENT SHOP VS. CERTIFIED MAZDA SERVICE CENTER
TYPES OF MECHANICS
One of the biggest questions that our customers ask when they visit the service department concerns the differences in the independent mechanic shops and the certified Mazda service center. What is the difference? Below are the comparisons between the two and what you can expect when you choose a Mazda Certified Service Center.
CERTIFIED
A certified service is a shop that is equipped with technicians who maintain their automotive certifications for certain makes and even types of services. They have had courses on the vehicles they work with frequently, tested, and been approved based upon their knowledge.
SELF-TAUGHT
These self-taught mechanics are exactly that, those who have put in the time and experience working with a variety of vehicle makes. While they may have some certification in different services, they do not often specialize in a single make as a way to open their shop to all makes and models.
WHICH IS BETTER?
Both shops are equipped with qualified mechanics. In the certified Mazda service center, however, these technicians have their experience and skills validated with a certification that gives the customer that extra peace of mind knowing that they do know how to successfully service their car.
AUTO PARTS
Getting the right parts for your vehicle when it is serviced is something to be considered when you choose an independent shop compared to a certified Mazda service center. Below are the different part options.
OEM PARTS
OEM parts refer to the original equipment manufacturer parts that were designed by your vehicle's manufacturer specifically for your car. They are cut to specifications and have a perfect fit based on the model of your vehicle.
AFTERMARKET PARTS
Third-party or aftermarket parts refer to general parts that are designed to fit several vehicles. They are not designed by any specific manufacturer, but by an outside manufacturer to service several models and makes using the same part.
WHICH IS BETTER?
While the aftermarket parts may fit, they are often not made to specifics and do not fit as well as an OEM part. This leaves room for fluid and air leaks, causing further damage down the line. They are also used by external service centers because they are less expensive.
