Mazda recently announced that a new engine would enter the automaker’s lineup in the near future, and we couldn’t be more excited about the innovative new engine. The SKYACTIV®-X is set to join Mazda’s current lineup of engines in 2019, but how does it differ from traditional gas and diesel engines? Read on to find out!

What is Mazda’s new SKYACTIV®-X engine?
Mazda’s SKYACTIV®-X engine will feature a brand-new combustion method, which has never been seen on any engine that’s been made before. The engine benefits from a compression ignition, combining the advantages of both gasoline engines and diesel engines. The SKYACTIV®-X engine combines the quick response of diesel engines with the clean exhaust emissions offered by gasoline engines to create a crossover engine that truly gives drivers the best of both worlds.
Mazda’s SKYACTIV®-X engine vs regular gasoline and diesel engines
So what are the key differences between the SKYACTIV®-X engine and traditional gasoline and diesel engines? For starters, output performance and responsiveness are greatly increased, delivering about 10 percent more torque than the current Mazda SKYACTIV®-G gasoline engines, and it is significantly more responsive than diesel engines. Additionally, the SKYACTIV®-X engine is more fuel-efficient than current engines, delivering a 20 percent increase in fuel economy rating from the SKYACTIV®-G engines.
