2022 Mazda CX-30

2022 Mazda CX-30

The 2022 Mazda CX-30 is one of Mazda's newer introductions to the lineup, and as such it's full of newer features and all the latest innovations Mazda has to offer.. But what does that mean, and what trim level do you need to get all the new features?

There's a ton to love with the CX-30, and that's why we wanted to break down everything and answer any questions you might have about this subcompact crossover.

2022 Mazda CX-30 Performance Specs

The 2022  Mazda CX-30 bursts off the line, for a subcompact crossover, it packs a punch. There's only one engine option, and that's a 2.5L engine.

The base model of the engine produces 186 horsepower and 186 ft/lb of torque at 4,000 rpm. That translates to a 0 to 60 time of 8.1 seconds, which is quick for a non-turbocharged subcompact crossover.

And while there's just the one engine, Mazda does offer a turbocharged option of the engine, and that dramatically increases the performance specs. Instead of 186 horsepower, the upgraded version gives you an impressive 227 horsepower and goes from 0 to 6 in just 5.8 seconds.

In short, for what you're getting, the CX-30 is quick, and other vehicles in the same class just can't keep up.

Cargo Space and Ride Height

2022 Mazda CX-30

While the CX-30 isn't the largest vehicle Mazda has to offer, one advantage of going with a crossover is the higher ride height and additional cargo space you get.

Sitting at 62.2 inches high, the CX-30 is a full eight inches taller than the Mazda3, giving you more room to see around while you're driving.

Meanwhile, while the Mazda3 has 13.2 cubic feet of cargo space without the seating area and 20.1 cubic feet including that area, the CX-30 offers significantly more space there too. At 20.2 cubic feet without the seating area and 45.2 cubic feet including it, that's a ton more space.

Whether you're simply looking for a more spacious interior or you need more space for all the kids' sports gear, the CX-30 gives you all that and a little more.

2022 Mazda CX-30 Trim Levels

Like with most vehicles, everything you're going to get with the 2022 Mazda CX-30 depends on the trim level you choose. The CX-30 has eight different trim levels, but what all comes with the base model CX-30 might just surprise you.

So you know exactly what you're getting with the CX-30 and what trim level you want, we've broken down each option for you here.

2.5 S

The 2.5S CX-30 is the base model option, but it comes with far more than you might expect from a base model vehicle. For starters, there are tons of safety features to love.

The 2.5 S CX-30 comes with a lane departure warning system, lane-keep assist, radar cruise control with stop and go, and there's even a driver attention alert system to help ensure you keep your eyes on the road for those long road trips.

Furthermore, it comes with smart brake support for front collisions, so if you're about to run into something and don't notice, the car will actually brake for you and save you from an accident!

But while there are tons of safety features, there are standard comfort features too. Whether it's the 12 volt-power outlets, the two USB ports, or the integrated Android Auto and Apple Car Play, there are tons of new features that you'll love.

This is the only CX-30 with 16-inch wheels, but that lowers the cost for new tires when you need them. The 2.5 S comes with a black cloth interior, and there are three exterior color options to choose from – snowflake white pearl mica, jet black mica, or deep crystal blue mica.

Select

The Select is the first step up from the 2.5 S, and it comes with everything from that trim package and a little more. Our favorite upgrade is the blind-spot monitoring system with rear cross-traffic alert. It's a huge safety feature that makes the upgrade well worth it to us.

However, that's not the only thing you get by upgrading to the Select trim package. You also get power side mirrors with integrated turn signals, rear privacy glass, roof rails, larger 18-inch wheels, and dual-zone climate control.

And if you plan on having rear passengers, the additional rear A/C vents and the rear center armrest with cup holders are pretty significant upgrades too.

The interior gets an upgrade at this trim package too, with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a black leatherette interior. Finally, while you can go with any of the three exterior color options available on the 2.5 S, you can also choose from three more – machine gray metallic, soul red crystal metallic, and platinum quartz metallic.

Preferred

Up one more level is the preferred trim package. It comes with everything the 2.5 S and the Select comes with, and then some. With the preferred trim package, it's all about adding a little more luxury to the CX-30.

You get a power driver's seat, and both front seats are now heated. There are also vanity mirrors on the driver and passenger visors, and the side view mirrors feature memory positioning technology and tilt-in-reverse features that make them easy to use.

But while all those features are nice, the most significant addition to the 2022 Mazda CX-30 with this trim package is the power sliding moonroof. Finally, the preferred trim package is the first option to include the greige leatherette as an interior option, but you can stick with the black leatherette if that's what you'd prefer.

Carbon Edition

The carbon edition CX-30 is really a bit of an anomaly if you're thinking of traditional upgrades to different trim levels. That's because the Carbon Edition CX-30 is a very specific option, and it doesn't leave a ton of room open for customization.

It's the first trim package where you can get the polymetal gray metallic paint color, but you have to go with that exterior color. It's also the only option with a red leather interior, but once again, you have to go with that choice.

The only other feature it offers over the preferred trim level is the heated side mirrors, but it does come with everything else the preferred trim package has.

Premium

If you exclude the carbon edition CX-30, this is the next logical step up in the trim packages. You don't get the heated side mirrors, the polymetal gray metallic paint color, or the red leather interior, but Mazda does upgrade quite a few other things.

First is the audio system. Instead of the 8-speaker system, you can find in other trim levels, you get a Bose 12 speaker premium audio system. Next, you get a rear power liftgate with a programmable height adjustment.

It's also the first option with paddle shifters and the adaptive front-lighting system. Finally, it comes with traffic sign recognition technology and a full windshield-projected full-color active driving display system.

As for the appearance, it has a distinctive roof-mounted "shark fin" antenna. Meanwhile, the interior has both black or white leather options available for you to choose from.

2.5 Turbo

If you want the upgraded engine, the 2.5 Turbo is the lowest trim package you can get and still get that engine. It's comparable to the preferred trim package, but it does come with some perks in the premium package.

You get the 8-speaker system and lose the power liftgate, but you still get the heated side mirrors. You also lose the adaptive front lighting system and the "shark fin" antenna. However, you can get the polymetal gray metallic exterior color, and there's an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

There's no traffic sign recognition with this trim package, and you get to pick from a black or greige leatherette interior.

2.5 Turbo Premium

Alright, the 2.5 Turbo Premium is everything you get in the premium trim package, except you get the turbocharged engine. It's the exact same trim package, except with the turbocharged engine!

Still, having that extra horsepower under the hood and all the luxury features makes this a really attractive option.

2.5 Turbo Premium Plus

If you're looking for the highest trim level and the fully-loaded 2022 Mazda CX-30, what you're looking for is the 2.5 turbo premium plus. It comes with everything the 2.5 turbo premium has and then some.

It starts with the auto-dimming driver's exterior side mirror, but that's far from the only upgrade. You also get a 360-view monitor, the smart braking system now works on the rear too, and you get front and rear parking sensors.

It's everything Mazda has to offer for the CX-30, which gives you a top-of-the-line option with all the newest technologies.
