2022 Mazda3

2022 Mazda3

If you’re looking for an ultra-affordable and fun-to-drive vehicle, one that you need to check out is the all-new 2022 Mazda 3. While there’s not a ton of new features compared to the 2021 model, there’s not much that Mazda really needed to improve on with this impressive vehicle.

To help you understand everything that this vehicle offers and if it’s right for you, we decided to break down some of the most important features in the 2022 Mazda 3 here.

New Features

With every new model that rolls out you want to see what’s new. While there’s not a ton of new changes from 2021 to 2022 for the Mazda3, they did add one notable option – the Carbon Edition.

This all-new trim package includes blacked-out exterior elements, a Polymetal Gray paint, and 18-inch blacked-out wheels. You also get red leather seats that contrast nicely with the black exterior appearance and a 12 speaker Bose stereo system.

Finally, there’s an all-new Platinum Quartz Metallic paint color you can choose from. That might be all that’s new for the 2022 Mazda3, but considering how phenomenal the 2021 model is, that’s nothing to worry about.

2022 Mazda3 backStandard Features

What sets Mazda apart from so many of its competitors is the sheer number of features that come standard. These features include radar cruise control, automated emergency braking, lane departure warning system with lane-keeping assist, driver attention alert, and automatic high beam control!

Even better, with the Mazda app, you automatically get three years of Mazda Connected Service, and you can turn every new Mazda into a hotspot (with a subscription service). With so many standard features it means Mazda really has to step up the game to entice you to a higher trim package – and they meet the challenge.

Trim Levels

The 2022 has eight different trim levels for you to choose from, which means you can get exactly what you want without overpaying for features that you don’t. But to decide which trim level is right for you, you really need to know what each one offers. That’s why we broke it all down for you here.

2.0

The Mazda 2.0 is the base trim package, which still means it comes with everything we listed in our standard features section. It comes with the 2.0L Skyactiv-G I-4 engine, which is the base model engine.

Still, because of the litany of standard features that Mazda includes, you don’t have to sacrifice any safety features even if you go with the lower trim level.

2.5 S

The 2.5 S is extremely similar to the 2.0, except for two major differences. First, it comes with an upgraded engine package. Instead of the 2.0L engine, the 2.5 S comes with a 2.5L engine. Not only that, but you get the 2.5 S as either a hatchback or a sedan, while the 2.0 is only available as a sedan.

2.5 S Select

The 2.5 Select comes with everything the 2.5 S has and then some. It’s the first trim package to include blind-spot monitoring, although they all have a lane departure warning system. This is also the first trim option to include dual-zone climate control, keyless entry, a rear armrest with cupholders, and door mirror turn signals.

While all those features come standard with the 2.5 Select, you can upgrade to black leatherette seats, 18-inch wheels, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. You don’t need any of these features, but if you want them, you’ll need to go with at least the 2.5 S Select.

2022 Mazda3 Interior2.5 S Preferred

The 2.5 S Preferred comes with all the standard features from the 2.5 S Select, but it also includes a few more bonuses that you’re sure to enjoy. They include heated front seats, a power sunroof, and a power driver seat.

And if you need an all-wheel-drive Mazda3, this is the first trim package that offers that as an option. It’s not included in the entry level model, but it is an option you can upgrade to at this trim level.

2.5 S Carbon Edition

All-new for the 2022 model year is the 2.5 S Carbon Edition. It slides in between the 2.5 S Preferred and the 2.5 S Premium, and it’s a truly stunning option. It has unique color options that you can’t find at any other trim level, above or below it, and it still comes with all the features from the 2.5 S Preferred.

However, while you can upgrade to all-wheel drive with the 2.5 S Preferred, that’s not an option for the 2.5 S Carbon Edition. Still, with a sharp red leather interior and blacked-out exterior, it’s hard to find a sexier Mazda3 out there.

2.5 S Premium

If you want a manual Mazda3, then you’ll need at least the 2.5 S Premium. It’s the first 2022 Mazda3 trim level to offer a 6-speed manual transmission, but you go with the standard 6-speed automatic if you want.

Both options come with an optional all-wheel-drive upgrade, and you get the same 12 speaker Bose stereo system that you can find in the Carbon Edition. But what really sets this trim level apart is the Active Drive Display HUD, the navigation system, and adaptive front lights.

And instead of the leatherette seats, you can find the 2.5 S Preferred, every 2.5 S Premium comes with either black or red leather seats, and the 18-inch wheels are now standard.

2.5 Turbo

If you want the fastest Mazda3 out there, you need the 2.5 Turbo. It uses the same engine as the other 2.5 options, except this one comes turbocharged so you get even more speed and power. Every 2.5 Turbo comes standard with all-wheel drive and 18-inch wheels.

However, there are a few features that get nixed from the 2.5 S Premium to the 2.5 Turbo. The seats are back to leatherette and you can no longer get the manual transmission.

2.5 Turbo Premium Plus

It’s the top trim package for a reason, and it’s everything you could possibly want in a Mazda3. There are more exterior aesthetic accents and spoilers, but that’s not the main perks.

With the 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus the leather seats come back, and you get Rear Direction Base Safety, Smart Brake Support-Reverse, Rear Cross-Traffic Braking, Traffic Sign Recognition, Traffic Jam Assist, a 360 View Monitor, front and rear parking sensors, auto-dim frameless rearview mirror, and even an integrated HomeLink garage door transmitter!

However, keep in mind that these features still aren’t standard, but you can only upgrade to them from the 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus. It’s the top of the top, and it comes with some truly outstanding features that we’re sure you’ll love.

Performance Specs

With three different engine options to choose from, the performance specs are going to fluctuate a little from model to model. That’s why we decided to highlight all three engine options for you here and what they can do, that way you know exactly what you’re getting!

2.0L Naturally Aspirated Inline-Four

You can only find the 2.0L Naturally Aspirated Inline-Four on the 2.0 trim level for the Mazda3, which makes sense since it’s the smallest engine of the three. And as the smallest engine, it certainly has the lowest performance specs.

Still, it’s more than enough as a daily driver, and the 2.0L Mazda is still incredibly responsive. With a top speed of 122 miles per hour it still has plenty of git-up, which is pretty phenomenal for a baseline vehicle.

2.5L Naturally Aspirated Inline-Four

The 2.5L naturally aspirated inline-four is a clear upgrade over the 2.0L engine, especially when it comes to the 0-60 to time. It drops almost four full seconds, and it gains a few miles per hour to its top speed too.

You also get modest gains in both horsepower and torque, which is a large reason it’s clearly a quicker option.

2.5L Turbo-Four

The top performance option you can get in the Mazda 3 is the 2.5L Turbo-Four. It’s still a four-cylinder engine, but the 0-60 time shrinks to an impressive 5.6 seconds, and both the torque and horsepower jump significantly as well.

While the top speed only grows to 130 miles per hour, that’s in large part because of the governor on the vehicle. Still, unless you’re spending a lot of time at a massive track, the chances of you exceeding 130 miles per hour is slim to none anyways!
