2022 Mazda MX-5 Gets Great Trims & Packages

2022 Mazda MX-5 in Sport trim level

The Mazda MX-5 Miata is a gorgeous sports car that is as stylish as it is fun to drive. The Miata is an iconic car, with two seats and an open top that are perfect for cruising on the weekends or making the most out of road trips. It has been a fan favorite for decades now, and it continues to deliver with sophisticated looks, impressive performance, and advanced comfort and convenience features that make driving a pleasure.

With the 2022 model, the Mazda MX-5 trim levels bring some of its best features ever. Buyers also have the choice of several trims, as well as some packages, to customize the features they get on their new Miata. Here’s a closer look at what you can find in the trims and packages for the 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata:

Sport

The base model Mazda MX-5 Miata is the Sport, and it is appropriately named. The base model MX-5 comes equipped with a Skyactiv-G 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 181 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. With the light weight of the sporty coupe, that horsepower lets you go from 0-60 mph in just 5.7 seconds. A manual transmission means you get to take control of every shift, making you feel like you’re in the cockpit as you hug corners and soar through the straightaways. Rear wheel drive is standard across all trim levels.

The exterior of the 2022 Mazda MX-5 comes in three color choices: Soul Red Crystal Metallic, Jet Black Mica, and the new option, Platinum Quartz Metallic. The base model Sport comes with a soft convertible top and 16-inch metallic black aluminum alloy wheels. Standard exterior features include a black grille, body color front bumper and door handles, power folding mirrors, auto-off headlights, auto-leveling daytime lights, and LED brake lights.

Inside the 2022 MX-5, you’ll find a black interior with cloth upholstery and leather-look trim with metal accents. There’s a six-way power driver’s seat, bucket seats that provide ultimate comfort, and a driver foot rest. Some other comfort and convenience features include a full-floor covered console, keyless entry and start, a day-night rearview mirror, fade-to-off interior lights, and a 12V power outlet.

The infotainment system is displayed on a 7.7-inch full-color touchscreen, and it includes Bluetooth streaming, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, speed-sensing automatic volume control, and two USB ports. There are also driver headrest speakers and the Mazda Connect system, which includes HD and Internet radio integration.

A few packages are available on the Sport trim level, including the Weather Package that includes all-weather floor mats and a cargo tray; the Appearance Package that adds a black rear lip spoiler and a couple of other extras; and the Interior Package that adds alloy pedals, stainless steel door sill trim plates, and more.

Club

The Mazda MX-5 Miata Club comes with many of the same great features as the base model, but it adds a lot of extras. The exterior color options are expanded to seven, adding Machine Gray Metallic, Snowflake White Pearl, Deep Crystal Blue Mica, and Polymetal Gray Metallic. The interior can come in black or black with red stitching.

The exterior is also upgraded with 17-inch wheels and a gloss black air dam, though the other features remain the same. The powertrain is also the same on the Club trim, but other performance features are added, including a front shock tower brace, a limited-slip differential, and Bilstein dampers. Handling is enhanced for a more spirited driving experience.

Inside the Club, you’ll see upgrades like a nine-speaker Bose premium audio system and wireless Apple CarPlay.

All the packages available on the Sport model are available with the Club. However, for those who are looking for more performance enhancements, the Brembo/BBS Recaro Package is available, which adds dark gunmetal forged alloy wheels, Brembo front brakes with red-painted calipers, heated Recaro sport seats, an aero kit, black side sill extensions, and a black rear bumper skirt.

Grand Touring

The Grand Touring is the top trim level on the 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata. It offers the best in performance and luxury features that the model has to offer.

The Grand Touring comes with the same engine as the other trim levels, but it offers the choice between a six-speed manual transmission and a six-speed automatic. The manual transmission version comes with either a soft top or hard top, while the automatic transmission version comes with either a soft top or an RF body style.

Exterior features on the Grand Touring trim level includes 17-inch dark silver alloy wheels, body color heated door mirrors, auto-dimming driver’s door mirror, automatic headlights, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.

Inside the Grand Touring trim level, you’ll see upgrades like black leather upholstery, heated seating, bright silver metal accents, automatic climate control, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Beautiful Terracotta Nappa leather seating is also offered as an option.

Safety features are also expanded on the Grand Touring trim, with items like adaptive headlights with high-beam control and a traffic sign recognition system.

The Appearance Package and Weather Package are both available with the Grand Touring trim level, as are a few packages that give other options for the interior and exterior colors. One package offers the Terracotta Nappa upholstery, another offers that upholstery with exterior Machine Gray Metallic paint, and another offers that upholstery with exterior Snowflake White Pearl paint.
