2023 Mazda CX-5 Trims & Packages

2023 Mazda CX-5

Sometimes you already know what vehicle you want and all that’s left is for you to figure out the trim level. With eight different trim levels for the CX-5, it can be a little confusing, which is why we came up with this guide to break down everything you need to know.

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 has the following trim levels: 2.5 S, 2.5 S Select, 2.5 S Preferred, 2.5 S Carbon Edition, 2.5 S Premium, and 2.5 S Premium Plus.

That way you know exactly what each trim level does and doesn’t come with and you can get exactly what you want without feeling like you’re missing anything.

2023 Mazda CX-5 Trims

There are eight trim levels to choose from with the CX-5, and we’ll break each one down for you here. That way you know exactly what each one offers and which one is right for you.

2.5 S

The 2.5 S is the base model CX-5, but just because it’s a base model SUV doesn't mean it doesn’t have a ton of great features. For starters, it comes with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, but that’s really just the start of things.

The 2.5 S also comes with tons of standard safety features like Blind Spot Monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, smart braking support with collision control, a lane departure warning system, and a rearview monitor.

For technological features, there’s a dual front USB ports, a 12-volt power outlet, and a 10.25” color display for you to control everything from. Finally, like all the 2023 CX-5s, it comes with an all-wheel-drive system that helps you tackle any terrain.

So sure, it’s a base model vehicle, but when you get behind the wheel, it certainly won’t feel like one.

2.5 S Select

With so many great features with the 2.5 S, Mazda really has to entice you to get you to upgrade to the next trim level. Of course, the 2.5 S Select comes with everything the 2.5 S comes with, but then they give you a little more.

Additional features include:

  • A dual-zone climate control system.
  • Additional exterior color options.
  • Rear air conditioning vents.
  • Leatherette seats.
  • Dual rear USB ports.
  • Even heated front seats.

With so many great features like these, the 2.5 S feels more like a luxury upgrade than a trim level just a notch above the base package.

2.5 S Preferred

The 2.5 S Preferred is just a step ahead of the 2.5 S Select, and one of the most notable features that come with this trim level is the front/rear moonroof. But while that’s one of the most notable features that first become available at this trim level, it’s not the only one.

It’s also the first trim level with real leather seats instead of leatherette or cloth. You also get an 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat instead of the 6-way power adjustable seat on the 2.5 S Select, and it’s the first trim level with a power adjuster for the passenger seat too.

Still, while these are all great things, the moonroof is the real selling point for most people with this trim level.

2.5 S Carbon Edition

The 2.5 S Carbon Edition is an oddball when you compare it with some of the other trim levels available. For starters, there’s only one color option available at this trim level, and it’s not a color option you can get with any other trim level.

It also has unique color options for the interior, namely a red leather interior option, although you can still go with black leather if you want. Finally, it’s the first trim level to go from 17” wheels to the 19” option.

From there it has everything the 2.5 S Preferred has from a technological and comfort standpoint, but not much else. With the 2.5 S Carbon Edition, it’s all about the appearance upgrades, but there’s no denying it looks great.

2.5 S Premium

The 2.5 S Premium puts us back more along the traditional trim options. But while it loses some of the unique badging and coloring of the 2.5 S Carbon Edition, it comes with everything else you might think of and then some.

It’s the first trim level that ditches the 4.6” multi-information display in the dash for a 7” LCD meter display, and it’s the first model with paddle shifters. It also keeps the 19” wheels that come with the Carbon Edition, and it gets an upgraded LED lighting system for both the front and rear of the vehicle.

Finally, one of the most notable upgrades starting with the 2.5 S Premium is the introduction of Sport and Off-Road driving modes you can turn on and off as needed.

2.5 S Premium Plus

With so many great features already available, it can be a little challenging to see how they will keep improving with each trim level, but they do. The 2.5 S Premium Plus has tons more luxury features than the 2.5 S Premium, and that CX-5 already has tons of great features.

But the 2.5 S Premium Plus introduces a rear power liftgate, automatic power folding side mirrors, and even a heated steering wheel. But really those are some of the smaller upgrades for the 2.5 S Premium Plus.

You also get ventilated front seats for added comfort, heated rear seats, and a windshield-projected active driving display. Finally, with an upgraded Bose 10-speaker surround system listening to tunes while driving down the road has never sounded so good.

2.5 Turbo

While there are a few different additions to the 2.5 Turbo, there’s no doubt that the main selling point is the turbo engine. It takes the horsepower from 187 to 256 and the torque from 186 ft/lbs to 320 ft/lbs.

But while that’s a great perk all by itself, you also get red stitching on black leather, and it’s the first model with a wireless phone charger. But it’s the upgraded engine that really sells this trim level.

2.5 Turbo Signature

The 2.5 Turbo Signature is the fully-loaded option for the Mazda CX-5 and it comes with absolutely everything you can think of. There’s an upgraded 360-view monitor for when you’re backing up, and you get front and rear parking sensors paired with smart braking support for the rear of your vehicle.

Moreover, there’s a driver attention alert system and a traffic sign recognition system. Finally, you get Caturra brown Nappa leather seats, which are about as luxurious and comfortable as it gets.
