Electric vehicles are becoming more popular as more consumers are realizing the need for environmentally friendly automobiles and as electronic technology has advanced. You can drive longer on a single charge, and you can find charging ports in more places, making electric vehicles more desirable. Plus, you can earn tax credits for driving electric, and you’ll save a lot on gas.

Previously, Mazda enthusiasts weren’t able to take advantage of this technology, but all that is changing. Soon, Mazda fans will be able to buy the first Mazda electric vehicle, the MX-30 EV, a stylish and sophisticated SUV. Here’s what we know so far about this exciting new electric SUV:

Electric Technology

Mazda’s new electric technology is being called the “e-Skyactiv” electric powertrain technology. The powertrain is a front-wheel drive system that puts out the equivalent of 143 horsepower (107kW). The battery is a 35.5kW lithium-ion battery, which means you’ll be able to easily charge it on a network of electric charging ports.

The battery is capable of AC charging at 6.6kW or of DC charging at up to 50kW with the CHAdeMO or CCS standard. The charging options ensure that you have greater flexibility to be able to charge the SUV whenever (and wherever) is needed. With DC charging, the battery can go from 0 to 80 percent in just 40 minutes.

Driving Range

One of the most important questions that buyers have when considering electric vehicles is how far it can travel on a single charge. After all, you don’t want to be constantly charging the vehicle, and you never want to get stuck in a place where you can’t easily charge it (such as when you’re on a road trip). The good news for Mazda buyers is that the new MX-30 EV has a range of 200 kilometers (or 124 miles). That’s plenty to handle your daily commute and then some, as well as longer, weekend trips.

Mazda said it is also working on a version of the MX-30 EV that will have a range extender. The model would pair a rotary engine with the electric motor to increase the driving range between charging.

Style

The new MX-30 EV will have a bold yet streamlined style. Mazda says that “its uncompromisingly simple styling emphasizes the MX-30’s beauty.” There is an aerodynamic design and clean lines, creating a styling dynamic that is up-to-the-minute. There is no pillar between the doors, which open “barn door” style. The front door has to be opened in order to access the half, rear door.

Right now, it’s not clear when the MX-30 EV will be available in the United States. Mazda says the SUV will go on sale in Europe in the fall. Auto industry insiders speculate the SUV will go on sale in the U.S. later in the year or early in 2021. Automotive regulations seem to be determining the release date. When the MX-30EV does go on sale, you can expect to find it at Seacoast Mazda. We’ll be to help you learn all about this exciting new electric vehicle!

Mazda3 after completing summer car maintenance

A lot of car maintenance articles focus on preparing your car for the winter months, when the freezing temperatures, ice, and snow wreak havoc on your car’s parts and systems. But summer car maintenance is just as important, since heat, sun exposure, and increased road trips put their own unique strain on your Mazda during the warmer months.

H2: TL;DR

Getting your Mazda ready for summer means checking tires, replacing worn wiper blades, topping off fluids, and giving your car a thorough wash inside and out. A little seasonal upkeep now helps you avoid breakdowns, stay safe on road trips, and extend your vehicle’s lifespan through the hottest months of the year.

Key Takeaways

Professional service – A Seacoast Mazda technician can inspect your vehicle and handle any Mazda summer maintenance you’d rather not DIY.

Tires – Inspect tread depth and look for balding or damage before summer road trips; rotate or replace as needed.

Wiper blades – Replace worn blades to avoid streaking and glare during spring and summer rain.

Fluids – Check oil, transmission, brake fluid, and coolant levels, since heat can affect fluid performance.

Cleaning – Wash the exterior to remove leftover salt and grime, and clean the interior for a fresh cabin all season.

Here are a few things you can do to get your Mazda ready for the summer months so that you get the best performance out of it:

Check the Tires

Chances are good that you’re going to want to take a trip or two during the summer. You might want to just head to the beach for the weekend, or you might want to take a longer summer road trip. Either way, good tires are essential for a safe ride, making tire checks one of the most important summer car maintenance tasks.d tires to ensure a safe ride.

Now is the time to check the health of your tires. Note the tread depth, and look for any signs of balding or other damage. Rotate the tires or have them changed as needed.

Replace the Wiper Blades

Rain is more common in spring and summer, so worn wiper blades can leave streaky smears across your windshield, which get worse when sunlight creates glare. Checking your wipers is a simple but essential piece of Mazda summer maintenance that takes just a few minutes.

Check your wiper blades now and replace them as necessary. That’s a quick fix that you can even do yourself.

Check the Fluids

Fluid levels can shift with fluctuating temperatures, so a key part of any summer car maintenance routine is confirming your oil, transmission fluid, brake fluid, and coolant are all at proper levels before heat stress sets in. You don’t want to discover a fluid issue only after your vehicle stalls on the side of the road.

Take this time to check your fluids yourself, or bring your Mazda to a mechanic to have everything inspected and topped off as needed.

Wash the Outside and Inside

Over the winter, your car may have become caked in snow, road salt, and other debris that can degrade and dull your car’s exterior. You need to thoroughly wash the outside of your car to clean it of any remaining contaminants.

Make sure to clean the inside of your car also to get out any dirt or stains left behind by mud, melted snow, and more from the winter. You should air out the car and deodorize it, as well, so that you have a fresh ride all summer long.

Get Your Mazda Summer-Ready at Seacoast Mazda

You can tackle this summer car maintenance yourself, or bring your vehicle to Seacoast Mazda for professional service. Our technicians will inspect your vehicle and recommend any repairs needed to keep your Mazda road-ready all summer long.

2020 Mazda CX-9

The Mazda CX-9 has always been a safe car. But improvements can always be made to be better. That’s exactly what Mazda did this past winter. It made modifications to the headlights on the CX-9 to improve the SUV’s overall safety rating. Now, it’s a Top Safety Pick Plus by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

A Closer Look at the Safety Ratings

The IIHS previously rated the 2020 Mazda CX-9 was rated a Top Safety Pick, which is already very good. The SUV earned ratings of “Good” – the highest ranking possible – for all crash testing, including small overlap front for the driver and passenger side, moderate overlap front, and side. It also received Good rankings for roof strength, head restraints, and seats.

The one “negative” mark on the scorecard for the CX-9 was a “Marginal” rating for the headlights. Mazda upgraded the headlights, and now they are rated as “Good.”

Updated Headlights

Mazda updated the CX-9 to have curve-adaptive headlights. Previously, the headlights were static. The new headlights create improved visibility, which has earned the CX-9 the improved safety rating.

In addition to updating the headlights on the CX-9, Mazda has also updated the optional headlights on the 2020 Mazda3 sedan and hatchback. Both vehicles were already rated a Top Safety Pick Plus by the IIHS, which is the highest safety rating.

Dating for the Updates

Mazda updated the headlights on the CX-9 starting in December 2019. What that means is that there are 2020 Mazda CX-9 models for sale that have the older headlights, and there are some models for sale with the newer headlights.

You aren’t likely to notice the difference just by looking at the headlights. What you need to look for, instead, is the date of manufacture. You can find this by looking on the inside of the driver door. There should be a sticker there with information about the vehicle, including the date of manufacture. Look for vehicles that were produced in 2020 to be sure that you have the newer, safer headlights.

Other Safety Features

The 2020 Mazda CX-9 has numerous other safety features that make it a great choice. Daytime running lights are standard, as are blind-spot detection and front-crash detection systems for vehicles and pedestrians. Optional equipment includes lane departure warning and lane departure prevention.

If you are looking for a family vehicle, or you just prioritize safety when you are evaluating potential new vehicles, the 2020 Mazda CX-9 has much to offer. Not only is it one of the safest vehicles on the road, but it is also a gorgeous SUV that handles well and that offers plenty of comfort and convenience features to make driving fun.
