2019 Mazda CX-5 Trim Comparison

2019 Mazda CX-5 in Sport trim level

The 2019 Mazda CX-5 is a stylish SUV that offers sport performance and plenty of attractive convenience features. It comes with optional all-wheel drive for each configuration so that you can get even more out of the performance, allowing you to go off road when you want to or to have better control in icy or wet conditions.

Explore the 2019 Mazda CX-5 trim levels, featuring five unique options, including the new Grand Touring Reserve and Signature introduced in the 2019 model year. These new trim levels introduce new features, as well as a performance-focused turbocharged engine. The first time in this generation of CX-5 that multiple engines have been available.

Here’s a look at how the five trim levels compare to help you make the right decision for you:

CX-5 SPORT

The base model of the 2019 Mazda CX-5 is the Sport, which should tell you where the priorities lie for this SUV. The base Sport trim comes equipped with a Skyactiv-G 2.5-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine with cylinder deactivation. This performance-minded engine puts out 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission with overdrive and an auto-manual mode.

Yet, despite the sporty performance, the SUV still gets an estimated combined fuel efficiency of 28 mpg. The cylinder deactivation feature shuts down two of the cylinders when the vehicle is traveling at steady speeds, which helps to conserve fuel.

Inside, you’ll find seating for five and an attractive cabin that includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob, cloth upholstery, and carpet floor mats. The infotainment system includes a 7-inch, full-color touchscreen display that is connected to features like a rearview camera, HD radio, Bluetooth capability for hands-free calling, and USB and auxiliary inputs.

Other interior features include push-button start, steering wheel-mounted controls, adjustable driver and passenger seat, and speed-sensitive auto-locking doors. Safety features include an electronic parking brake, advanced blind spot monitoring, and rear cross traffic alert.

Exterior features on the base model 2019 Mazda CX-5 include LED head lights, daytime running lights, body-colored side mirrors and rear roof spoiler, dual exhaust tips with bright finish, and 17-inch aluminum-alloy wheels.

CX-5 Touring

When you move up to the Touring trim level for the 2019 Mazda CX-5, you get the same great performance, but you get a little more luxury when it comes to finishes and convenience features.

Instead of cloth upholstery, you now get leatherette seating with Lux Suede inserts. You’ll hardly be able to tell the difference between these and genuine leather seats. Adding to the luxury feel are heated front seats, six-way adjustable driver and passenger seats, and a dual-zone automatic climate control with a pollen filter.

Keyless entry and start are introduced on the Touring level, as are features like rear air conditioning vents, rear USB ports, radar cruise control with stop and go, high-beam control, auto-leveling head lights, and rear privacy glass. Wheels are also upgrades to 19 inches of aluminum alloy with all-season tires.

All the features from the Sport trim level are included on the Touring, unless they are replaced by upgraded features (such as the wheels).

CX-5 GRAND TOURING

The Grand Touring is the luxury trim level for the 2019 Mazda CX-5. With this trim level, you’ll get the same great power train offered on the other two trim levels, but you’ll also get a host of great features.

In addition to everything you get with the Touring, the Grand Touring trim level offers genuine leather-trimmed seats, heated side mirrors, a Bose audio system with 10 speakers, and a power sliding glass moonroof with an interior sunshade. The front seats get more points of adjustment, and HomeLink is added to the rearview mirror, which is now auto-dimming. The Mazda navigation system is activated on this trim level, and you get a four-month trial subscription to Sirius XM Satellite Radio.

Additional exterior features include LED fog lights, LED combination tail lights, an adaptive front lighting system, and a power rear liftgate with a programmable height adjustment to respond to you.

Again, you’ll get all the features that are offered on the Touring trim level, unless an upgraded feature is offered to replace it.

CX-5 GRAND TOURING RESERVE

Buyers upgrading their older CX-5 models may be taken aback by this new addition to the CX-5's trim lineup. But the new high-level trim offering adds a very modest number of features, and is aimed at the buyer looking for the new 2.5-liter turbocharged engine and standard AWD. Because the Grand Touring Reserve comes standard with the new performance-focused engine, there's no way to downgrade on the Reserve trim or upgrade on the regular Grand Touring trim.

On top of the new engine, buyers of the GT Reserve trim will also receive the following feature upgrades:

  • Automatic power folding mirrors
  • Windshield wiper de-icer
  • Traffic Sign Recognizing Active Driving Display
  • Cooled Front Seats
  • Heated Rear Seats
  • Heated Steering Wheel
  • The level of performance increase from the turbocharged engine, and the luxury upgrades seen above make the Grand Touring Reserve a great option for buyers of the 2019 CX-5 in NH.

CX-5 SIGNATURE

It's hard to imagine that Mazda could one-up the new Grand Touring Reserve trim, but the luxury offered in the new top-of-the-line Signature trim shows that they accomplished just that. Like the GT Reserve trim, the Signature trim offers the new 2.5-liter turbocharged engine standard with AWD.

But in addition to the features Mazda added to the Reserve, they also included the following feature upgrades -- many of which are usually only seen on luxury cars:

  • 360-degree View Monitor
  • Genuine Wood Trim
  • Black Cloth Headliner
  • Nappa Leather-Trimmed Seats
  • 19-Inch Exclusive Dark Silver Aluminim Wheels

WHICH TRIM LEVEL IS RIGHT FOR YOU?

With the 2019 CX-5, Mazda has actually made choosing between trims harder than ever. Many will go for the more affordable options, but buyers who want value, luxury features, and performance may find it tough to choose between the two new trims.

Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

  • Do you really want to have all the bells and whistles, including the premium sound system and leather-trimmed seats?
  • Are you content to enjoy the many great features offered on the base model?
  • Are you looking to upgrade to the new turbocharged engine option?
  • Do you want the absolute best of the best that you can get?

You may not really know the answer to these questions until you take a test drive of each of the trim levels and see how the features operate in practice. You may be surprised at what a difference auto-leveling head lights or a programmable rear liftgate makes to your enjoyment of the vehicle.
