Mazda’s popular compact crossover, the CX-50, already comes with a variety of features that enhance performance and handling on off-roading adventures. But with the new Meridian Edition, drivers who are committed to spending more of their time off the beaten path will enjoy even better performance. The new special edition is loaded with features that allow it to handle all types of terrain comfortably and capably.

Here’s a closer look at what the 2023 Mazda CX-50 Meridian Edition has to offer:

Performance Enhancements

Of course, when you’re looking at an all-terrain vehicle, performance will be a top concern. The 2023 Mazda CX-50 Meridian Edition features a number of performance enhancements. The edition is an option for the 2.5 Turbo trim level, so it has the same engine: A 2.5-liter Inline 4 turbocharged engine that puts out 256 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque. The Meridian Edition then gets 18-inch alloy wheels with Falken all-terrain tires and rocker panels. It also includes the i-Activ all-wheel drive system and the Skyactiv Drive six-speed automatic transmission with a manual shifting mode.

Unique Appearance

The 2023 Meridian Edition comes with a number of styling enhancements that give it a unique appearance in the lineup. The special edition comes in two exclusive colors: Polymetal Gray Metallic or Zircon Sand. Both are matched with a Terracotta brown leather interior with black accents. A matte black graphic is included on the hood to mark it as a special edition.

A unique headlight surround is featured on the Meridian Edition, and the black alloy wheels have black wheel locks and lug nuts.

Options Packages

Options packages are available for the Meridian, even though it is a special edition.

The Apex package adds roof rack crossbars and a roof platform, giving you more options to carry your gear on your off-roading trips. There are splash guards to protect against mud and gravel. A different hood graphic also sets the model apart from other Meridians.

The Meridian Choice package is a dealer-installed package that includes many of the same features, including the roof rack crossbars, roof platform, both front and rear splash guards, and a unique matte black hood graphic. It also has a unique garnish for the headlights and side rockers. It offers just a few subtle tweaks in the design to mark the model as special, while also ensuring that drivers have all the features they want.

Mazda added an exciting new nameplate to its lineup for 2023: The stylish and sporty CX-50. The new crossover is poised to outrank rivals like the Nissan Rogue and the Toyota RAV4, thanks to its exceptional performance, superior styling, and advanced features. The all-new CX-50 comes in nine trim levels, giving you a variety of options to ensure you get exactly what you want in your SUV.

There are two engine options on the 2023 CX-50. Both offer great performance, but one has a little more kick for those who want it. Your choice of trim level will determine your engine option, as well as other extras. Here’s what you need to know to make the right choice:

Base Engine

The base model Mazda CX-50 is outfitted with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. That’s going to give you a spirited ride, whether you are just headed to work or you are exploring new trails on the weekends.

The new drivetrain also has an improved power distribution system over the Mazda CX-5, which is the closest predecessor to this new model. That’s going to create a smoother and more capable driving experience. The CX-50 also has an improved towing capacity of about 2,000 pounds – more than enough for casual use.

Turbocharged Engine

Those who want a little more power can get it with the turbocharged engine offered on the Mazda CX-50’s top three trim levels. The turbocharged engine is also a 2.5-liter four-cylinder, but it puts out 256 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. You’ll get the same transmission and all-wheel drive. That drivetrain will give you all the power you need for exploration and long, fun road trips. Plus, you’ll enjoy an expanded towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, giving you what you need to haul whatever gear you want to bring along for the fun.

By moving to the higher trim levels for the turbocharged engine, you’ll also enjoy a host of other features, including a larger display for the infotainment system, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a 360-degree camera system, and a panoramic sunroof. At the top trim levels, you get the most powerful performance, while also enjoying the feel of a luxury automobile. You get to enjoy the best of both worlds for wherever you may roam.

There are also enhanced tech and entertainment features, like additional USB ports for charging devices, a wi-fi hotspot, and a six-speaker sound system.

Great Performance

Mazda has always been at the forefront of automotive innovation. In recent years, it has put out some gorgeous vehicles that deliver exceptional performance and come with advanced technology that make driving fun. Recently, Mazda announced that it will introduce two new exciting vehicles that build on that legacy: The all-new Mazda CX-70 and the Mazda CX-90.

These two crossovers will be built on a new platform that Mazda is introducing, and they’ll be released sometime after another new model, the CX-50, is released in November. Industry experts estimate that the CX-70 will arrive at the end of this year and the CX-90 will arrive early in 2023. Here’s what we know so far:

Longitudinal Platform

The longitudinal platform was developed as part of Mazda’s stated plans to make a quarter of its vehicles be electric by 2030 and to have all of its vehicles have at least some degree of electrification. This new platform is a straight-six with rear-wheel drive. It has a double wishbone front suspension for improved handling. The engine is expected to have a plug-in hybrid system to save on fuel consumption, as well as a turbocharger to amplify performance.

Not very many details have been released about the platform other than a diagram, but we expect big changes based on the goals that Mazda has set. We expect that more details will come out throughout the summer, and we’ll be reporting as we get them.

Additional Details

Details are scarce about these two new vehicles, as they often are in the first days after an early announcement. However, we do know a few items of interest. The Mazda CX-70 will be a two-row vehicle, while the Mazda CX-90, which will replace the current CX-9, will be a three-row vehicle. Mazda also says it will optimize the configuration of the CX-90 so that it offers more interior and cargo space. Both models were designed for audiences looking for larger SUVs.

Mazda has its sights set on competitors like BMW and Lexus, with the goal of pulling out of comparisons to more budget-friendly models like Nissan or Toyota, so we expect to see a lot of high-end materials and features in both new models. Mazda has already been designing its vehicles with more sophisticated choices, so this will be a natural evolution for the automaker. Expect to see the Mazdas to look and perform even better than before.

Who says that it can’t be fun to drive a compact crossover? Certainly nobody that’s ever been behind the wheel of the CX-30 2.5 Turbo.

It’s a newer addition to Mazda’s lineup, and it’s one of the most fun to drive. The performance specs on this car are off the charts, but that’s not the only thing that makes this car fun. It’s a top-notch choice all-around, and we’ll highlight why for you here.

Improved Performance Specs

Anytime you turbocharge an engine you can expect the performance specs to jump, and that’s certainly the case with the Mazda CX-30 2.5 Turbo. While the stock engine pushes out 186-horsepower and 186 ft-lb of torque, the turbocharged engine puts those numbers to shame.

The 2.5 turbo pushes out 250-horsepower and an impressive 310 ft-lb of torque, which leads to a faster and more responsive engine that is simply more fun to drive. It takes the 0 to 60 time from 8.1 seconds to 5.8.

While the standard 2.5 isn’t the quickest compact crossover on the market, when you get the turbocharged engine it’s easily one of the fastest.

Sport Mode!

If you’re looking for the maximum takeoff speed and most responsive drive with the CX-30, all you need to do is move the shifter to Sport Mode. This unlocks all the performance features you crave, but it also allows you to save some money on fuel when you don’t need the extra pickup.

Sport Mode is a great feature for the Mazda CX-30 2.5 Turbo, and we highly recommend that you take full advantage of it.

The Sound System

Having a quick and responsive vehicle makes it fun to drive, but of course you still need some tunes! That standard sound system in the Mazda CX-30 comes with 8 speakers. But if you’re looking for even more sound and quality, then they offer an upgraded Bose 12-speaker package starting at the Premium trim level.

Between the 2.5 Turbo and the 12-speaker Bose sound system, there’s no doubt that the CX-30 turbo is a blast to drive!

Safe as Ever

Mazda is all about making vehicles that are both fun and safe to drive. The CX-30 fits that mold, and it comes with tons of safety features.

These features include the Lane Departure Warning System, Lane-Keep Assist, a rearview camera, Smart Brake Support, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and a Driver Attention Alert System.

Whether you’re the one getting behind the wheel or you’re thinking of when your kids start driving, just because it’s fun doesn’t mean it’s not safe!

The Mazda CX-50

The Mazda CX-50 is an exciting, stylish, versatile, 5-door crossover SUV that’s poised to take the North American market by storm. It has an attractive exterior, comfortable, spacious, technologically-advanced interior, superb driving dynamics and can deliver superior performance both off-road and on. It’s a great blend of quality, style and sophistication. Here are 5 of the Mazda CX-50’s highlights:

1. Attractive Exterior Styling

The Mazda CX-50 has a large, dark metal grille, LED head and tail lights, a long hood, a wide, planted stance and a nice sleek silhouette. There are side air intakes near the front bumper and in the back and it has flared fenders, broad shoulders and integrated high-strength roof rails for its accessory roof rack installation. The CX-50’s extra wide back door opening acts as a step to make reaching gear on the roof rack easier. Plus, its black wheel cladding, 18-inch alloy rims and dual chrome exhaust tips give it an appealingly rugged appearance.

2. A Sophisticated All-Wheel-Drive System

The Mazda CX-50 has Mazda’s unique, advanced all-wheel drive system. It lets the SUV leave the paved roads for exciting off-road adventures. Plus, a strut front suspension and torsion-beam rear axle lets it climb mountains or go to campsites in the woods. The CX-50 has firm suspension damping that adds to Mazda’s traditional on-road prowess and makes it ideally suited for off-road adventures.

3. A Great Cabin

The Mazda CX-50 has an impressive, comfortable terracotta-colored interior. This 2-row 5-seater has push-button start, high-quality materials with fine stitching, wide seats and lots of legroom. The cabin layout has symmetrically arranged controls, a luxurious, outdoorsy ambiance and a panoramic sunroof. There’s a full-color infotainment display screen, rotary controller, Mazda Connect infotainment system, available Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD radio, Bose audio system, wireless phone charging, navigation, 7-inch LCD instrument panel display, USB ports and dual-zone automatic climate control.

4. Off-Road Mode

The new Mazda CX-50’s off-road mode has more precise turn-in response from increased G-Vectoring control gain. In off-road mode, weight is shifted to the front tires for better traction, engaging the all-wheel drive system prevents oversteer and yaw damping stops the tail from sliding around. On steep hills, the idle raises automatically and allows a smoother transition to torque application. The SUV’s ABS system is engaged and holds the brakes so the vehicle won’t roll back. The engine’s naturally strong torque kicks in right off idle and the transmission locks the torque converter. In this launch position, the torque converter provides smoother power delivery so the vehicle can traverse large obstacles easily.

5. Unique Features

Two features make the Mazda CX-50 unique. Its i-Active all-wheel drive system that can predict situations when wheelspin will occur then immediately sends power where it’s needed. And the CX-50’s Mi-Drive or Intelligent Drive Select system lets you choose from Normal, Sport or Off-Road mode to improve vehicle response and quickly accelerate without downshifting.

Seacoast Mazda Has It All

Choosing a Mazda3 model can be challenging. Want to see a test drive and ask questions about the 2022 Mazda3 models? Visit Seacoast Mazda.

For 2022 Mazda has updated its most popular, best selling model, the X-5. Currently among the best small SUVs, Mazda made it even better. The CX-5 is more fun to drive than most vehicles in its class and has lots of premium materials inside and out. Mazda has also made All-Wheel Drive standard on all CX-5 models. Plus, they tweaked its appearance inside and out, made the turbo models more powerful and retuned the dynamic 6-speed automatic transmission. The changes make the 2022 CX-5 faster, quieter and more powerful.

All-Wheel Drive Is Standard

One thing that sets the Mazda CX-5 apart is that it gets great traction whether on-road or off-road with its excellent All-Wheel Drive. In 2022, every Mazda CX-5 will come equipped with All-Wheel Drive. While other automakers charge extra for All-Wheel Drive, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 has it and all the safety and performance benefits it gives at no additional cost. It lets drivers enjoy the CX-5 ‘zoom, zoom, zoom’ experience. The 2022 Mazda CX-5 is now even safer and drivers will enjoy its enhanced performance.

Appearance Upgrades

For 2022 Mazda has made appearance upgrades to make the CX-5 look even more attractive and stylish inside and out. It starts with a sharper framed mesh grille or ‘signature wing’ on the front fascia. The CX-5 also gets narrower headlights which have rectangular LEDs. Mazda also added a redesigned liftgate and larger tailpipes. Plus, slide inside the 2022 Mazda CX-5 and you will quickly notice the beautiful new seats. These reshaped new seats do more than just look good, they offer greater stability and make the occupants more comfortable on any road trip.

More Powerful Turbocharged Engines

At Mazda, ‘zoom, zoom, zoom’ is more than a tagline. It’s an accurate description of how the engine responds when you step on the accelerator. And for 2022, Mazda takes that experience to a whole new level by adding even more power to the turbocharged engines available on the CX-5. The 2.5 liter, Inline-4 engine on the CX-5’s base model will still have 187 horsepower. But add premium fuel to the optional turbocharged engine and you will experience an instant increase from 227 horsepower to an impressive 256 horsepower. Driving the 2022 Mazda CX-5 will be even more exhilarating and exciting.

A Retuned Transmission

The engineers at Mazda have also improved the performance of the 2022 MX-5 by retuning its 6-speed automatic transmission. The retuning enables it to help to provide much more power very early in the acceleration process. The Mazda engineers also tightened the frame, as well as changed the damping on the suspension system. As a result, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 not only has quicker acceleration, it also has reduced road noise. This means it is now faster and quieter than ever before. Together all of these changes have helped to make the 2022 version of the Mazda CX-5 the best version ever produced.

Mazda will release a refreshed version of the Miata in 2022. The current model of the Miata was introduced in 2015, so many people say some upgrades to it are long overdue. However, some sources say this new Mazda Miata may be the last non-electrified version of the popular roadster. Some automobile news sources say eventually the Mazda Miata will be some sort of hybrid. It is said that Mazda will have to replace the chassis first. Those in the know say that is in keeping with Mazda’s stated plan to have their entire lineup electrified by 2030.

Use Of An Internal Combustion Engine On New Miata Not Confirmed

Automotive news sources and the general public have not received confirmation from the automaker that the potential ‘NE’ Miata will have an internal combustion engine. There are even rumors it will have an e-fuel option. Speculation about the future of the popular Mazda Miata is running wild. The company has stopped taking orders for the 2021 version of the Miata and has confirmed that a refreshed version will make its North American debut in 2022. The Mazda Miata celebrated its 30th anniversary a few years ago. It’s among Mazda’s longest running models, so refreshing its look isn’t unusual.

The Miata Has A Dubious Future

Although the Miata isn’t dead yet, it’s current model may now be officially out of production. Plus, there is wild speculation about the current ‘ND’ generation Mazda Miata’s fate. Lovers of the traditional Miata are scoring dealer lots looking for any remaining 2021 models. Mazda has made clear its plans for the electrification of the Miata, however, insiders say it will be 2024 before a new model of the Miata is released. For some, this makes the Miata’s future dubious at best. The current Miata generation is a big hit. Thankfully some ICE version Miatas can still be found and enjoyed.

Mixed Messages

The Mazda website says the current model Miata is not being produced in japan any more. However, Mazda USA says otherwise. That has fueled talk about the Miata getting a big refresh. But Mazda USA told a media outlet no plans have been made to stop producing the current generation Miata. A spokesman for Mazda USA confirmed that within the next few weeks an announcement on updates to the 2022 model Miata will be made. This update may coincide with the announcement about the Japanese model. Aesthetically, the Mazda Miata has not changed in six years, so the announcement could be about any type of changes.

Minor Short-Term Cosmetic Upgrades Or More

Mazda could put a new front face, make minor cosmetic changes, add some go-fast hits or other minor changes. The real changes will be seen on the 2024 Miata. Whether Miata buyers want to buy now or wait for the next-generation Miata with a hybrid electric powertrain, a Skyactiv-X engine, a rotary engine, more torque, or more power, they can get it at Seacoast Mazda.

Mazda recently announced that by 2023 they will be adding 3 new SUVs to their already impressive line-up. They are the CX-50, the CX-70 and CX-90. The CX-50 will be the first to make its way into a Mazda dealership showroom near you. Mazda will be able to produce the CX-50 so quickly because the automaker will use the same platform on which they make the CX-30 to produce it. Mazda said they will reveal the new CX-50 as early as next month. Sources say the new CX-50 will be built at the Mazda Huntsville, Alabama factory. It is anticipated that the CX-50 will enter production as early as January.

What To Expect

Insiders say the new CX-50 will probably be a mid size crossover much like the current Mazda CX-5. They say the new CX-50 is expected to have some black body cladding and Mazda will sell it alongside the CX-5. It is expected that the starting price of the CX-50 when it gets to the Mazda dealership showrooms will likely be just a few thousand dollars more than the current starting price of the CX-5. It is believed buyers can expect to see the new Mazda CX-50 make its debut in November of 2022. That means some lucky buyers will be able to get a newly released Mazda CX-50 for Christmas 2022.

Employing A New Longitudinal Architecture

Mazda will use their new six-cylinder engine longitudinal architecture to build both the CX-70 and the CX-90. Both vehicles are expected to arrive early in 2022. No specific information related to the automotive design, bumper, grille or even headlamp of the CX-70 and CX-90 has been revealed to the general public at this point. The only clue is they will probably have inline six-cylinder engines based on the longitudinal architecture on which their construction is based. Sources say the new vehicles will have plug-in-hybrid options.

Fulfilling Luxury Automobile Aspirations

Mazda may be taking its luxury automobile aspirations to another level with the introduction of these three new SUVs. Two of the new vehicles are going to use Mazda’s long-awaited longitudinal architecture which features an inline-six-cylinder engine, as well as plug-in-hybrid options. Both the two row CX-70 and the three-row CX-90 will be built based on Mazda’s new architecture and many anticipate these vehicles will be more luxurious than previous models. Combine that with Mazda vehicles stellar reputation for exceptional performance and these new vehicles could be exceptional indeed.

A Choice Of Engines

Although Mazda has confirmed that the CX-70 and CX-90 will have wide body designs, the automaker says buyers can choose whether to have them equipped with a turbocharged inline-six engine or an inline-four engine working with the new plug-in-hybrid powertrain. Like all other Mazda CX models, the CX-50, CX-70 and CX-90 will have all-wheel drive as standard. Both the CX-50 and the CX-70 will be introduced as new models that will be added to the already exceptional Mazda line. The CX-90, however, will take the place of the Mazda CX-9.
